Early Alzheimer's Disease

Memory loss and brain fog are characterized by forgetfulness and a reduced ability to think as clearly and quickly as you want.  The conditions are often referred to as mild cognitive impairment or age-related cognitive decline.

It is estimated that as many as one-third of adults will experience such a gradual decline in cognitive function during their lifetimes.  The first episodes of these symptoms are typically observed in people in their 40s and 50s, but subtle signs can appear in individuals in their 30s or even earlier.

Such small changes in cognitive function need to be taken seriously and potential causes identified, as mild cognitive decline is associated with a significantly greater risk of both Alzheimer's disease and accelerated decline in cognitive function.

Evidence supports the view that these conditions are not a "normal" part of aging, and that the time to take action to try to prevent further cognitive decline and/or reverse existing damage is when the symptoms first appear.

Causes

There are many potential factors that may play a role in cognitive decline, including:

  • Diet

  • Nutrient status

  • Chronic inflammation

  • Oxidative stress

  • Vascular disease

  • Infectious disease

  • Environmental toxin exposure - e.g., heavy metals, pesticides

  • Hormone imbalances

  • Psychological stress

  • Depression

  • Head trauma

Is It Type 3 Diabetes?

Recent research has increased our understanding of the relationship of diabetes and cognitive decline conditions, like Alzheimer's Disease.

“We conclude that the term “type 3 diabetes” accurately reflects the fact that AD represents a form of diabetes that selectively involves the brain and has molecular and biochemical features that overlap with both type 1 diabetes mellitus and T2DM.” Alzheimer's Disease Is Type 3 Diabetes–Evidence Reviewed,J Diabetes Sci Technol. 2008 November; 2(6): 1101–1113

“Lower brain glucose metabolism is present before the onset of clinically measurable cognitive decline… The reason brain hypometabolism develops is unclear but may include defects in brain glucose transport, disrupted glycolysis, and/or impaired mitochondrial function.” Brain fuel metabolism, aging, and Alzheimer’s disease,Nutrition Volume 27, Issue 1, January 2011, Pages 3-20

These and other studies has lead to our innovative natural treatment approach to cognitive decline conditions.

What's the difference between sick care and health care?
Sick care is largely about relieving or suppressing symptoms. Health care is about improving performance. While sick care is about how you feel, health care is about how you function. Sick care is what you do to treat an obvious problem, and health care is what you do to avoid the problem and advance your well-being.
Why does chiropractic work?
Chiropractic works because your nervous system, consisting of your brain, spinal cord and all the nerves of your body, controls and regulates every cell, tissue, organ and system of your body. A chiropractor locates and reduces areas of nervous system compromise (usually along the spine) so your capacity to heal is restored. Chiropractic works by helping your body work as it was designed.
